Do you know about the positive effects of natural light exposure in your body? Know why the entrance of solar light in your office is a synonym of productivity!
Ergonomic furniture for an office is the most elemental factor in the well-being of any workforce. However, there are many types of research that explain the importance of alternative resources that should be included in any office design, and one of them is natural lighting.
In general terms, natural elements are positive for the normal functioning of the human body. Fresh air and sunlight may be the solution for any problem. They help with the release of stress and are a positive influence on productivity. An online supplement of the journal SLEEP states that employees who work in a windowed office environment experience a higher quality of life than those who work in a windowless office.
As a matter of fact, the article shows us the procedure they’ve followed to obtain such conclusion, which can be simplified in three factors:
Health-related quality of life:
It was measured using the Short Form-36 (SF-36), which is a health survey that provides an overview of the person's health status. It's easy and quick to fill out, while also being easy to evaluate.
It was evaluated with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). A self-report survey that assesses sleep quality over a 1-month time interval.
Light exposure, activity, and sleep:
These were measured by actigraphy in a representative subset of 21 participants (10 in windowless workplaces and 11 in workplaces with windows). Actigraphy is a non-invasive method of monitoring human rest/activity cycles.
The study group comprised 49 day-shift office workers, with 27 subjects in windowless workplaces and 22 located in workplaces with windows. Compared to workers in offices without windows, those with windows in the workplace received an increase of 173 percent more white light exposure during work hours and slept an average of 46 more minutes per night.
Workers without windows reported lower scores on quality of life measures related to physical well-being and vitality. They also had poorer outcomes on measures of overall sleep quality, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction.
Masof Furniture recognizes the importance of this element. That's why it has a working team that always takes advantage of the natural light sources in enclosed places, so they can determine the best distribution to illuminate and share solar energy throughout the office.
